Let's learn how to write a good postcard in English!!

Usually people call or send text messages to friends and family when they are on holiday.
Sending a postcard however, is something very personal since it shows that the person sending it has been thinking of you even though they are on holiday. Some people also like to collect postcards from around the world making it a very interesting hobby because they are able to see places they may never visit.

Finally, it is a great souvenir to receive!!!

A postcard has got a beautiful photograph of the place you are visiting and on the back of that you write your message on the left and on the right a space is given for you to write the name and address of the person you are sending it to.

Six simple steps for a successful writing:

(left side of postcard)

  • Start your postcard with Dear + name
  • Use Present Continuous to say you are having a good time.
  • Use Past Simple or Present Perfect to describe what you did or have done until now.
  • Use going to to talk about your future plans.
  • Finish up with something that will make the reader smile.
  • End your postcard with Love + your name

(right side of postcard

  • Line 1: Start with the person's name you are sending it to,
  • Line 2: Write the name of the street with number, (if there is one)
  • Line 3: Town, postcode and City,
  • Line 4: Country (if the postcard is going abroad).
